Dear Parents and Caregivers
Term 2 has been another busy term with both students and staff heavily involved in a multitude of activities. Alongside studying hard we have seen fantastic performances at Stage Challenge, CYN Concert, Shakespeare Nationals, Pasifika Fusion, Kapahaka Festival and winter sports. The list goes on.
We hosted four members of the Hurricanes team with an injured All Black amongst them, Cory Jane. The local primary and intermediate schools enjoyed the first ever People’s Press Conference and asked many interesting questions of the players.
This year to date we have welcomed two international groups from India and Vietnam and we look forward to two groups from Japan in Term 3.
Open Evening was well patronised again this year with both Year 7 and 8 students attending. It was a cold and miserable evening but the hall was full. It was a pleasure to show so many around the facilities. Next term we look forward to Open Day with the Year 8’s engaging in activities with our staff.
We have begun planning for 2014 and the work we have been doing with Vocational Pathways is progressing well. Year 10 and 11 students have been introduced to the Youth Guarantee website and have begun investigating the vocations that are available to them. Many have indicated a desire to be involved with tertiary providers one day per week. This is available to next years Year 12 and 13. Please investigate for yourselves www.youthguarantee.net.nz
Many of our students have part time jobs and I ask that you review the number of hours they are working as we approach the exam pressure time. Year 12 and 13 have thirteen weeks of study left to complete this year before they head off for study leave for external exams. The focus for Term 3 must therefore be study for all of them. The recent reports have outlined progress to date and staff will have offered guidance at report interviews to assist students plan their time.
There will be many extra classes being offered at the College to support the students as they approach the end of the year. Faculties will advise students of the times for these classes.
We look forward to a busy, fulfilling Term 3.
