HETTANZ Student Fashion Awards

13 November 2017

3rd Place in the HETTANZ Student Fashion Awards

Abigail Paxton has shown her amazing fashion design talents in achieving 3rd place in the Senior Creative category of the Home Economics and Technology Teachers Association of New Zealand (HETTANZ) Student Fashion Awards. Students from around New Zealand sent in entries to a range of categories. Sarah Wirth, HETTANZ President said, “The outstanding level and variety of garments from students all over the country shows that Textiles Technology is being taught in an inspiring and creative way.”

Abigail’s gypsy costume was designed to  make a cultural garment with colour, show freedom of the traditional dance, be a metaphorical representation of music and rituals, considerate of the religion, and make use of their techniques and maybe tools, all tied together in one garment. It includes individually beading approximately 11,900 beads as well as designing and creating the 25 coin necklace using plaster moulds, the laser printer, acrylics and learning to use a blow torch to melt the pewter.

Well done Abigail.
