Kia Ora and Welcome to Horowhenua College
Horowhenua College is a co-educational state school with over 650 students and 75 staff. Established in 1940, it is the longest established of the four colleges in the Horowhenua area. Located in Levin a provincial town set between the wilderness areas of the Tararua Ranges to the East, with Lake Horowhenua and the coast of the Tasman Sea to the West. The subjects offered are standard subjects plus Performing Arts, a wide range of Technology subjects, Outdoor Education, Art and Languages.
Horowhenua College is able to offer its students a range of cultural and sporting activities. The College has been very successful in national competitions in many areas. Choir, ‘Stage Challenge’, Jazz Band, drama, canoe polo, hockey, swimming, rowing, basketball, soccer, rifle shooting, rugby, netball, tennis and mountain biking, are some of the activities offered. Modern facilities include: computer suites, library / information centre, music suites, science laboratories, rugby and soccer playing fields, netball and tennis courts, a large gymnasium including a climbing wall, outdoor swimming pool and canteen.
International students have been a special feature of the Horowhenua College campus for many years. They are welcome to enjoy the facilities here and build the foundation for their future studies or careers.
Language development is fostered by experiences and the students are encouraged to participate in the wide range of activities offered by the College.
As with New Zealand students, we believe they are to be encouraged to achieve their potential in whatever area of study or involvement they choose.
