Sunset on Levin
Levin is the main centre in the district of Horowhenua. Levin's size and position has many advantages.
Wellington is New Zealand's capital city. Levin is 70 minutes drive to Wellington and 40 minutes drive to the city of Palmerston North. Students can easily have access to the facilities they offer: National Museum - Te Papa, theatre, restaurants, sports events, Westpac Stadium, Parliament etc. There are trains and buses travelling to both these destinations.
The following universities are within 1 and 1/2 hours of Levin:
Victoria University (Wellington), Massey University (Palmerston North and Wellington), International Pacific College Palmerston North). There are also several Polytechnics within the same region. Entrance to New Zealand universities is gained from recording Achievement Grades in 42 credits in the Level 3 NCEA exams (including 14 credits in each of two subjects from the National Qualifications Framework), together with the requisite Mathematics and English language requirements.
A small friendly community of approximately 19,000 people. We do not usually experience the problems or distractions associated with the cities.

Our Home stay providers are carefully selected. Our host parents care about their students and want them to have an enjoyable experience in New Zealand.
Levin is near the geographical centre of New Zealand and is the central point for visiting the North and South Islands. A ferry to the South Island leaves from Wellington. State Highway One (the main road from Wellington to Auckland) and the main trunk railway line both pass through Levin. There are international airports at both Palmerston North and Wellington. Our staff meet new students at both of these airports.
Beaches, rivers and mountains are only 15 minutes away. Many students play sport and engage in outdoor activities. Many clubs exist in Levin (see comprehensive list under 'Sporting Activities'. The Horowhenua District has a reputation for its 'clean green' image. Skiing facilities are only 2 and 1/2 hours away at Mount Ruapehu.
Miriam Jung - Germany, July 2014 to July 2015
Hello, my name is Miriam Jung and I have been an international student from Germany for one year. I was really nervous and excited before I came but after my first few school days I was sure that I would have an unforgettable time here. I found really good friends and I will miss them a lot! The people are all really friendly and helpful. My subjects were Art, Outdoor Education, Geography, Drama, Biology, English and Mathematics. My favorite subjects were Outdoor Education and Art. In Outdoor Education we did a lot of trips and it was always fun in class. In Art the teachers were really helpful and supported me a lot in my work. I enjoyed the canoe polo team at school and I went to the rock climbing club. I had a lot of fun at canoe polo and it was really cool to do a kiwi sport. I went with my team to the nationals in Fielding and was very proud of us that we brought the title home. I trained with the Levin Swimming Club and in summer was a lifeguard at Waiterere Beach. The Stage Challenge competition was an amazing adventure for me and I was happy to be a part of it (We came 1st!). But one of the best things here in New Zealand and I am pretty sure that I will never forget it was the school Ball. It was just an awesome evening and it was so nice to see everyone dressed up. The culture is just amazing and I will miss that a lot. The landscape is so beautiful and the trip to Rotorua with the international students from school was really fun. We saw lots of places and for me the highlight was ‘Hobbiton’. The south island is really beautiful as well and my favorite place is Dunedin. I am so thankful to everyone who made my year just amazing and unforgettable. I am so happy that I went to Horowhenua College and made so many good friends. » View all testimonials
