The Arts Faculty at Horowhenua College is a thriving and exciting part of College life. Our objective is to provide you with the skills and competencies to be creative and generate ideas about yourselves, your experiences, and to express and communicate ideas in a variety of artistic forms. We employ 9 specialist teachers in the Arts, including itinerant music teachers. Our courses aim to inspire and create confidence in the arts subjects. Our performances are high, with students regularly obtaining Excellences in Scholarship, Painting, Design and Photography.
We have a designated computer suite for Design and Photography students, large beautifully appointed art rooms, a purpose built Drama suite, and a Music room and practice rooms for offline Music lessons. Our School Hall is also used for Productions, Talent quests, Dance, Live Theatre. We celebrate the arts with Cultural Awards - an evening of arts, performances and entertainment and awards for all things Arts.

Shunki Nagai - Japan, July 2014 to July 2015
I’m Shunki and I am an international student from Japan. I came to Horowhenua College 9 months ago from Japan. I have had such a great time here. I’ve got heaps of friends from my classes and they were so kind to me, even when my English was hard to understand when I first came here. Also my teachers were kind. They make a great effort to teach their students and make the classes more fun. The international students that I was also a part of became really good and close friends. We spent a lot of time together and we enjoyed some school trips together. Obviously we will keep in contact. It is so hard to say goodbye to them but I am such a lucky person because I could come here, to Horowhenua College. A big thanks to all of the people in this school! I’ll never forget what I’ve learned here and the amazing friends that I have made here. » View all testimonials
