Pasifika Fusion

7 August 2013

The students involved in the Pasifika Fusion competition spent many months practising and preparing for their twenty minute slot, performing in The Regent Theatre in Palmerston North, just before the end of term two. The group was lead by Emily Mose Tuialii along with Sia Fuauli who between them did the choreography and put the final performance together. Doing something like this takes commitment and lots of energy and those students who stuck with the group, came to all the weekend practices and took part in the competition, could be very proud of what they achieved. On the day of the performance we were all convinced that we would gain at least a placing in the cultural performance category but unfortunately that was not to be. Even though the group was disappointed that the judges did not award them a final place, their performance certainly gained the admiration and respect of other schools and teacher leaders.

There are many people who help to make this event happen for our students and I would like to thank Mrs Mose Tuialii who made the beautiful costumes for our group. She put in many hours behind a sewing machine and we are very grateful to her. Also Mrs Muliaga who came along to many of the practices to support and critique us when we needed someone to give us their perspective on how it was all going.

Our performances are not finished for the year though, because we will be farewelling the two Japanese school groups who are visiting this term and we are performing for the Masonic Village at the end of the month. Also we will present our competition entry to the school at an assembly so that everyone can see how awesome the Horowhenua College Pasifika Fusion group is.
